SINGAPORE Press Holdings (SPH)newspapers are the preferred medium for job seekers, with the Internet in second spot, according to the findings of the Singapore Workforce Survey (SWS).

Some 84 per cent of job seekers surveyed said they rely on SPH newspapers for recruitment opportunities while 40 per cent use the Internet.

Of those who use SPH newspapers to search for job opportunities, 60 per cent said they were eventually offered jobs, compared with 15 per cent of those who used the Internet for this purpose.

The survey was conducted by SPH's marketing & product development department on a random location sample of 10,361 people aged 15-59 years old.

'Recognising that recruiters face great challenges in hiring in the current employee's job market, SPH is organising Career Discovery 2007, the largest hiring event to hit Singapore,' SPH said in a statement.

The event, which will be held at Suntec Ballroom 401 on Sept 8-9, will have more than 100 booths from 70 participating companies to allow job seekers to check out the participating companies through a 'all-in-one print, online and on-site platform'.

Admission to the exhibition is free but visitors must register their attendance online via www.st701.com/ careerdiscovery by Sept 7 at 12 noon, and they will stand a chance to win a Sony Vaio laptop worth $2,999 (grand prize) and Nokia N95 mobile phone worth $1,198 (two prizes).
